A two member delegation from the Liberia National Commission on Small Arms (LiNCSA) headed by its Vice Chairperson Madam Bennietta T. Jarbo has left the country to form part of the government of Liberia delegation to the 63rd Session on the Status of Women from March 11 - 22 in New York, the United States of America.
The Government’s delegation comprises of women in senior and leadership positions from several governmental ministries and agencies including the Liberia National Police, the Armed Forces of Liberia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Liberia Immigration Service among others. The Minister of Gender Children and Social Protection, Hon. Williametta E. Saydee Tarr, heads the delegation.
The Conference on the Status of Women is an annual event which brings together representatives of women’s organizations from across the globe to discuss issues dedicated to the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women, and to document some of the pressing issues affecting women. This year’s Session will focus on the theme: Social protection system, access to public services and sustainable infrastructure for gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls.
The Liberia National Commission on Small Arms which is the authority on arms control in Liberia is committed to enhancing greater women participation in the fight against illicit small arms and light weapons proliferation in Liberia as well as promoting gender mainstreaming at all levels in the security and other related sectors.
