On December 12 and 13, 2018, the Liberia National Commission on Small Arms (LiNCSA) launched an awareness campaign in Gbarnga and Ganta Cities respectively to address the looming problems of the trafficking and circulation of illicit firearms across the borders into Liberia. The Campaign brought together an array of stakeholders including the Chairman and other officials of the Small Arms Commission, county authorities from Bong and Nimba, the joint security, local leaders and residents of surrounding border communities, marketers, and representatives from the farmers/hunters associations. Also in attendance were representatives from the road transport and motorcyclist unions, youth and students groups and civil society actors. The awareness is part of an initiative being implemented by the Small Arms Commission to improve the physical security of arms and arms stockpile management (PSSM). The initiative is being funded by the British Government through its Embassy in Monrovia. Other activities under the initiative include the training of state security personnel in PSSM, assessment of selected state security armories and the development of SOPs (standard operating procedures) for armories inspections.
